I am an experienced practitioner. It’s funny how many people write about leadership who have never been leaders. What makes my book different is that I write from the place of experience. I like to write very practical, in a way that everyone can understand.

You really need to read it from front to back. It’s only eight chapters and they build on each other. I present the problem in the beginning and then I talk about different solutions as I grow through the book.

I would want it to be “take the plunge” People are paralyzed with fear and they prefer the certainty of their misery over the misery of uncertainty. But I would say take the plunge and you will be glad you did.

A Deep Dive Into The Book (5:48)

Chapter one is lead from your heart not just your head. I am a big believer in the head, I have a lot of education and I am a big fan of getting education. Knowledge is a big part of leadership but I also make the point that you have to lead from your heart. I have found that if you are inspired to follow somebody it is probably because their heart inspired you.

Chapter two is what I call do what you love and love what you do. About five years ago I realized that I wasn’t doing either one and that’s when I decided to make a change. It’s amazing how many different things can speak to us and inspire us to make a change.

The next chapter is called the seven deadly motives in leadership. A lot of people are stuck in jobs they do not like. In leadership it is so toxic for leaders to stay longer than they should. I like to say that a leader does more damage from staying too long than from leaving too soon. Here I discuss the seven deadly motives for hanging on to a position after the passion is gone: Power, Position, Prestige, Popularity, Pride, Personal Gain, and of course Paycheck.

The next chapter is about the passion piranhas that are out to get your heart. In the pressure of your job, they rob you of your passion and you don’t have the joy of your work. It can everything from prolong discouragement, workaholism, lack of taking vacation, working outside of your gifting, having marriage pressures, and on and on and on.

And then the next chapter raises the questions, are you strolling among the walking dead? Sometimes it happens to people where they are just going through the motions and in a sense a part of the walking dead.

The next two chapters are the two options you have, the road to passion recovery. The first option is if you’re in this place and you don’t have the passion, one thing you can try to do is get your groove back. Stay put and try to get your groove back. I provide several options internally on how to do that. The second option is to seek a way out as you move toward your heart. this is when you come to the conclusion that you need to bring an end to what it is your doing. If there is very little overlap in what you do and your passion then you need to get out and go toward your passion.

The final chapter is go ahead and take the plunge. I really encourage people that if you’re at that place in a miserable job then just go ahead and take the plunge.

Well there is a big blue heart on the cover of the book because in my own journey I began to lead with my head and not my heart. I was in a position for years as a CEO with a big company and as the years went on my heart grew cold and I started to lead with my head not with passion. I soon came to grips that I needed to make a change because my heart wasn’t in it. So that’s what inspired me to write this book, it’s a small book but its a personal journey of my heart.
